New Government Position in the Seattle Housing Authority (SHA)

Stewardship Director

  • Oversee and ensure compliance of deed restricted communities and individual homeowners throughout pre-purchase, financing, occupancy and use, and re selling periods

  • Provide support and advice for existing and proposed deed restriction communities

  • Work with potential buyers to understand the deed restricted communities and their options within them

The main point of contact for governance and questions about homeownership is the Stewardship Director. This is a new position whose role is to ensure that emerging homeowners have adequate preparation when considering buying in our communities. They oversee the deed restriction for Orchard Commons and will support future restrictions as new communities arise. This new position provides Orchard Commons with a direct link to the Seattle City Government and allows us to address questions or efficiently and easily. If current residents or interested potential buyers have further questions on our working relationship with the Seattle City Government, they should reach out to the Stewardship Director.

Position Justification and Description

The new Stewardship Director will be selected through an open application process like other positions at the Seattle Housing Authority. Their qualifications will include experience in asset management, property management, community relations, and succession planning. This position is necessary as currently the SHA does not have a dedicated position to support emerging homeowners. By having this new role, our residents can get guidance on homeownership, and on joining our program and other programs as they appear in the future. In addition, this position will increase the viability of future living community projects, as they will have an existing mechanism for assistance and oversight.
